I find sports photography very demanding – I am always looking for the “money” shot but I’m very self critical about the shots that I take.  I usually take lots of photos and then bin most of them, perhaps keep a quarter for a photogallery but even fewer are shots that I’m actually pleased with.  Sometimes it is very difficult to get the kind of shot I’m looking for – players coming towards me so I can see faces, on ball action, clear not distracting background, good facial expressions and eye focus (not looking elsewhere) and, of course, sharp focus.  So I usually divide that results of a shoot into good action shots, and also I select some good candid portraits.  Here’s an action shot with interesting facial expressions.  Hope you like it.  Taken with my 70-300 mm lens.  Here’s a link to my sport collection on flickr.  DSC04991.
