photos to inspire

My school has a partner school in rural south-west Uganda which I have visited three times. It is a long, uncomfortable bus journey from Kampala but worth it to see the results of our interest over the last four years. The school was just beginning when we started, so we have been able to contribute funds to build classrooms and dorms and to equip the school in lots of ways. We have also been able to show the love and concern of other people for those children who have so little relatively. In our visits to Uganda we also looked at several orphanages and projects like “Send a Cow”, as well as worshipping in a number of churches in Kampala. I especially remember showing a boy his photo on my digital camera, knowing the the boy was dying from Aids and probably would not be there when I visited a year later. Another memorable occasion was joining in the worship at Kampala Pentecostal Church; the building crammed with 2,500 people for one of the four services, with crowds of people outside trying to get in. And the sheer numbers of young people in Kampala and everywhere in Uganda, with the majority of the population under 15 years old. Visiting Uganda the first time was a huge eye-opener and has made me want to be much more involved in God’s work around the world. This photo was taken with a point and shoot and has been treated to reduce noise. My “most interesting” Uganda shots on flickr are here. Btw, don’t you just love all the advertising on his fleece!
