Jimmy Milne was General Secretary of the STUC who died in 1986. This engine was named in recognition of his hard work in the trade union movement in Scotland (information from Joyce Wilson, Jimmy’s daughter – see comment). This class 47 diesel electric locomotive was found in the engine sidings at Rowsley on Peak Rail in the UK. Although it looks in pretty good condition generally, it was dirty and dilapidated and I have processed it to emphasise that. It was taken with a Sony a350 and Tamron 17-55 mm lens and processed from raw in Aperture, Photoshop and Topaz Adjust. I adjusted levels and all the basic stuff in Aperture, and then used Photoshop and Topaz to bring out colour and detail and improve the exposure, using masks to lighten parts of the image and darken other parts. More shots taken on this trip to the Nottingham area are here on flickr (with more to come). DSC09925
Your information is incorrect this train was named in honour of my late father Jimmy Milne General Secretary of the STUC who died in 1986. I was at the naming ceremony at Glasgow Central when the train was named by my mother Alice. The flag used to wave off the train was given to my son and is in his possession. This honour was awarded my father in recognition of his hard work in the trade union movement in Scotland. Good picture
