On the last day of my trip to California last summer, there was a nose-boarding surfing competition in Oceanside.  I had my new Tamron 200-500 mm lens with me (although no tripod) and made good use of it taking lots of shots, mostly from the pier.  It’s a heavy lens and required a steady hand, so I think all things considered, the results were very good.  Trying to get a good shot at 500mm at f6.3 max without a tripod is not easy.  This shot was actually at f16 1/500 and 400 ISO, 200 mm.  The professional has his huge lens supported on a monopod on a stepladder.  This shot processed in Aperture.  See my flickr channel here.  DSC07546
